Do NOT idle below 800 RPM — low RPM has insufficient oil splash to lubricate the cylinder walls; (3) First 15 minutes: check for leaks (oil, coolant, fuel, exhaust), abnormal noises, and vibrations. Monitor oil pressure (should be 3-5 bar / 45-75 PSI at 1,200 RPM warm). Shut down and re-torque the cylinder head if required by the Yuchai break-in schedule; (4) Next 8 hours: operate at varying loads (25-75%). VARRY the speed between 1,000 RPM and rated (1,500/1,800 RPM) every 15-30 minutes. Varying pressure (from load change) is essential for proper ring seating — constant speed/load glazes cylinders; (5) First oil and filter change: at 8-10 hours. This removes the high concentration of wear particles from break-in; (6) Next 40 hours: operate at 50-100% load. Avoid prolonged idling. Second oil change at 50 hours; (7) After 100 hours: the engine is fully broken in. Resume normal maintenance intervals. Document ALL break-in readings (pressures, temperatures, blow-by) as a baseline. Important Yuchai-specific notes: (A) Some YC6B and YC6M engines have a break-in coating on the piston rings — these seat faster (50 hours vs 100); (B) Do NOT use synthetic oil during break-in — synthetics are too slippery and prevent proper ring seating. Use conventional mineral oil for the first 100 hours; (C) Check and adjust valve clearance after the first 50 hours.
